Sat: 9am – 4pm

How much do you charge per session?

Different psychologists in our practice charge different rates depending on their area of practice, qualifications and experience.

As a general rule, the following fees apply:

Practitioner Full fee Medicate rebate
General Psychologist $250 $89.65
Clinical Psychologist $280 $131.65
Social Worker $220 $79.05

These fees may differ for third parties.

Please note, we are not a bulk billing clinic.

Can I receive Medicare rebates?

Yes. All our psychologists are registered with Medicare. So, following a mental health review, you may be eligible for up to 10 sessions (per calendar year) with any clinician at our practice.

We must have a current referral for a client to claim a Medicare rebate.

How do I access the Medicare rebates?

To be eligible for a Medicare rebate, you must first see a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician, who will assess whether you’re experiencing mental health difficulties.

Conditions covered include anxiety, depression, panic attacks, sleep problems, adjustment disorders and more.

Medicare rebates can be accessed in three easy steps:

  1. Book an appointment with your GP to discuss why you would like to see a psychologist. Ensure you book an extended consultation for a ‘Mental Health Care Plan’. (This is the technical term for a referral to a psychologist.)
  2. If your GP agrees you are eligible, they will complete a Mental Health Care Plan and make a referral to the psychologist you would like to see.
  3. Your GP will review your progress after your first six sessions. If appropriate, your GP will then recommend an additional four sessions.

Will I get reimbursed through my private health insurance?

Positive Psychology is registered with all major Australian health insurance providers. So if your policy covers psychology, you can claim a rebate via your provider.

To find out how much you get back and the number of sessions you’re covered for, please contact your provider.

Are concession rates available?

Yes. If you have a Low Income Health Care Card or you are a full time tertiary student, you are entitled to a discounted rate.

Can I receive a Medicare rebate and a private health rebate for the one session?

No. You cannot use your private health cover to top up your Medicare rebates. You need to choose one or the other.

Please contact us to discuss the best option for you.
