Medicare rebates

Medicare rebates are available to anyone with a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

A Mental Health Treatment Plan entitles you to up to 10 sessions per calendar year – partially covered by Medicare – with any of our Medicare-registered practitioners.

How do I get a Mental Health Treatment Plan?

Follow these three steps to arrange one.

  1. See your doctor: Book a time with your GP to discuss seeing a psychologist. Be sure to book an extended consultation for a Mental Health Treatment Plan. This will be your referral.
  2. Get a referral: If your GP agrees you’d benefit from therapy, they’ll complete a Mental Health Treatment Plan and refer you to the psychologist you’d like to see.
  3. Review your progress: Your Plan will cover you for six sessions. After your sixth, you and your GP will review your progress – and renew your Plan for another four sessions if need be.
How do you process Medicare rebates?

We process Medicare rebates using CorePlus – a system integrated with Medicare.

We can process yours the moment we receive payment. (And we’ll happily provide a receipt if you need one.)

How long will it take to receive my rebate?

If your bank account is linked with Medicare, you’ll receive your rebate almost instantly. If you haven’t linked your bank account, Medicare will hold your benefits until you do.

I’m seeing a provisional psychologist. Can I still claim through Medicare?

No. Provisional psychologists – early-career psychologists who are qualified but still require supervision – are ineligible for Medicare provider numbers. If you book to see one, this means you can’t use your Mental Health Care Plan to access Medicare rebates.

Instead, we offer reduced rates for seeing provisional psychologists.

Private health rebates

We’re registered with every major health insurance provider in Australia. Your eligibility to access funding for psychology services depends on which fund and plan you‘re with.

How do you process private health rebates?

We can’t process them on the spot, as we don’t have HICAPS (Health Industry Claims and Payment Service) terminals onsite.

Instead, we provide you with an invoice and receipt so you can claim your rebate directly from your provider.

How much can I expect to get back from my rebate?

You’ll need to check with your provider. They can tell you the extent of your rebate eligibility – including the amount and claim limits per session.

I have a Mental Health Treatment Plan and private health. Can I claim through both?

No. If you have private health and a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you’ll need to choose between a Medicare rebate and a private health rebate.

I’m seeing a provisional psychologist. Can I still claim through private health?

No. While provisional psychologists are trained and qualified to provide mental health and psychology services, they are still completing their supervised practice and are not yet eligible for private health insurance rebates.

To support access to care, we offer reduced fees for sessions with provisional psychologists.

NDIS services

To access NDIS funded services at our practice, you must have an active NDIS Plan, complete our intake process and have a service agreement in place. If you are unsure about your eligibility or need support with this process, our team is happy to help.

How do you process NDIS payments?

The payment process for NDIS clients looks different depending on how your NDIS plan is managed.

  • Agency-managed NDIS participants: We bill your services directly to the NDIS through its portal.
  • Plan-managed NDIS participants: We send invoices directly to your plan manager.
  • Self-managed NDIS participants: You can pay on the day of your session.

Third-party programs

Want to see a Positive Psychology practitioner through a third-party program? We can help.

What third-party programs do you offer services for?

We deliver support through a range of third-party, fully funded psychology programs. We bill these services directly to the relevant provider.
